The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) has joined the “It’s On Us” campaign to raise awareness about the prevention of sexual assault on college campuses. “It’s On Us” was started by President Obama and Vice President Biden in September 2014, and the campaign recognizes that the solution to sexual assault begins with us, and seeks to reframe the conversation around the issue so that everyone sees it as his or her responsibility to do something to prevent it.
The MIAC has taken the pledge to stop and prevent sexual assault on all 13 of its member campuses, and is promoting that pledge with a video featuring student-athletes, and a P.A. script to be read at MIAC contests. The conference encourages all members, faculty, staff, and students of our members institutions to take the pledge:
● To Recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.
● To Identify situations in which sexual assault may occur.
● To Intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.
● To Create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.
In addition to "It's On Us," several MIAC institutions are involved with other initiatives to combat sexual assault, such as the Green Dot program, and the MIAC fully supports the efforts of those programs as we all work toward a common goal.
