BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for men's and women's cross country and men's golf on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Augsburg, Carleton and Gustavus claimed the Conference's weekly honors for Sept. 26 – Oct. 2, 2017.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated and selected by the Conference's sports information directors. Throughout the fall season, team sports (football, volleyball and soccer) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (cross country and golf) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Matt Wilkinson

First-year runner Matt Wilkinson claimed his first collegiate victory in Carleton's annual "Running of the Cows" meet on Saturday. Wilkinson finished the race in 25:40.1, good for a 13-second margin of victory. The field included 179 runners representing 13 teams, four of which are regionally-ranked.

MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Meg Mathison
Carleton College

Meg Mathison secured her first collegiate cross country victory over the weekend, winning the "Running of the Cows" meet by half-a-second. The field included 219 runners from 14 teams, including seven squads that were either nationally- or regionally-ranked. Mathison crossed the finish line in 22:08.4, helping the Knights claim the team title.

Senior golfer Alec Aunan earned co-medalist honors at the 2017 MIAC Men's Golf Championships after carding a 219 (72-74-73) over the three-day tournament at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn. Aunan is the 25th Gustie to claim individual medalist honors at the MIAC Championships.

Brett Buckingham rallied late at the 2017 MIAC Men's Golf Championships, scoring birdies on three of the final six holes to finish with a final-round 72 and a three-day, 54-hole score of 219 (71-76-72) to earn co-medalist honors. The fifth MIAC medalist in Augsburg history, Buckingham recorded 11 birdies in the tournament, the most in the 49-player field.
