BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for baseball and softball on Monday. Student-athletes from Gustavus, Saint Mary's, St. Olaf and St. Thomas claimed the Conference's weekly honors for Feb. 26-March 4, 2018.
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated and selected by the Conference's sports information directors. Throughout the spring season, team sports (softball, baseball) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (tennis, outdoor track and field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Baseball Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College
Le Sueur, Minn. | Le Sueur-Henderson
Cole Pengilly logged eight hits – including a three-run, walk-off home run – in five games for the Gusties over the weekend. The first-year infielder batted .444 for the week, belting the game-winning homer in a 6-3 win against Carthage on Saturday and finishing the weekend with a pair of extra-base knocks in a five-hit game against Concordia (Neb.) on Sunday.
MIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
East Bethel, Minn. | St. Francis
James Green pitched 14 innings of shutout ball, striking out 13 and walking none in his collegiate debut last week. The first-year pitcher retired five batters in a 2-0 victory over MSOE on February 26 and returned to the mound on March 3 for an eight-K performance against Mount Union.
MIAC Softball Player of the Week
University of St. Thomas
South St. Paul, Minn.
Elise Barnes extended her streak of games with at least one hit, run batted in or walk to 42 in a row this past weekend. The sophomore infielder batted .555 with a .777 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage, totaling 10 hits and a pair of walks in 20 plate appearances to help the Tommies go 3-3 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Ariz. Barnes finished with one home run and seven runs scored, reaching base safely in all six games.
MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
St. Olaf College
Sammamish, Wash. | Eastlake
Julie Graf struck out 31 of the 58 batters she faced and posted a 0.89 earned run average in 15 2/3 innings of work in a 3-1 weekend for the Oles. Graf posted double-digit strikeouts in both games on Saturday, striking out 10 in a 6-0 win versus Cornell College and posting 13 Ks in a 1-0 loss against Lake Forest.
