ST. PAUL, Minn. - Macalester College sophomore Cole Chang (Pleasantville, N.Y./Collegiate School) was named the National Division III Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the organization announced today. Chang threw a no-hitter in Friday's 5-0 victory over Augsburg College.
In the first game of a league doubleheader with Augsburg, Chang made history by holding the Auggies without a hit over seven innings. The MIAC Pitcher of the Week, Chang kept the Auggies off-balance all game, recording 12 fly-ball outs, six groundouts and three strikeouts. The only blemishes were a walk and four hit-batsmen, a by-product of the type of movement on Chang's pitches that day. Chang's no-hitter is the first in head coach Matt Parrington's 21 years at Macalester.
After the no-hitter, Chang is now 3-1 with an earned run average of 2.45 in seven starts this season to rank fifth in the MIAC in wins and sixth in ERA. He is holding opposing batters to a .205 batting average in 33 innings pitched.
Macalester hosts St. Thomas in a MIAC doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 15. The first game starts at 1:00 p.m. at Nicholson Field.
