Hudson, Wis. / Hudson
The St. Olaf men's soccer team got off to a great start in conference play last week as it defeated Bethel and Saint John's for a pair of MIAC victories. Senior Mackenzie Lund (Hudson, Wis.) led the Ole offense to six goals in the two games with two goals and one assist, including the game winner in a narrow 2-1 victory over Saint John's. For his performance, Lund was named the MIAC Men's Soccer Athlete-of-the-Week.
Lund's big week started Wednesday in St. Olaf's MIAC-opening 4-2 victory at home against Bethel. He had a goal and an assist to help the Oles get off to a good start in conference competition. The forward followed with his game-winner Saturday on the road at Saint John's when he got out on a breakaway in the second half. This season, Lund's four assists lead the MIAC, and he ranks fifth in points (10) and seventh in goals (three), sixth in shots (21) and fifth in shots on goal (11).
The two victories helped the Oles start out as one of only two teams to win their first two MIAC contests. St. Olaf is now 6-1 overall, and atop the MIAC standings at 2-0. Lund and the Oles hope to keep their winning ways alive Saturday with another conference contest on the road. St. Olaf travels to Moorhead to face Concordia for a 12 p.m. start.
