BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Wednesday night's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) women's basketball matchup between Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of St. Thomas will carry some extra weight, as both programs are ranked among the top-20 teams in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) polls.
The Tommies (6-1) have won five in a row after falling to No. 8-ranked Bowdoin on the road in the second game of the year. Ranked No. 7 in the WBCA Poll and 11th by D3hoops.com, St. Thomas enters Wednesday's game against the Gusties with an 18-game winning streak in the series.
Undefeated Gustavus (7-0) is ranked just behind St. Thomas at No. 12 in the nation by D3hoops.com and 17th in the WBCA Poll. The Gusties celebrated the program's 500th MIAC victory last week in its 82-50 win over Hamline on Saturday. Gustavus' last win over the Tommies came on February 17, 2010.
The two teams will meet on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Gustavus in a rematch of last season's MIAC Playoff Championship Game.
