Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska
The Gustavus women's golf team continued its successful season at its home Gustavus Fall Invitational over the weekend, with star Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska) again leading the way with a great individual performance. The junior turned in her second-straight top-two finish over the weekend while leading her team to a first-place showing. For her performance, Falk was named the MIAC Women's Golf Athlete-of-the-Week.
The tournament started Saturday in Le Sueur, Minn., with a tremendous round from Falk, as she was 4-over par (77) with the best score over the first 18 holes. Windy conditions pulled up Sunday's scores, with Falk registering an 86 to finish with a two-day total of 163 and a tie for second place individually. Gustavus shot a 668 as a team (330-338) to finish first. Falk's second-place showing came a week after winning the College City Classic. This fall, Falk is averaging 80.1 shots per round, which is the fourth-best average in the MIAC. She has two top-five finishes, three in the top 10 and four in the top 20 in five tournament appearances.
Falk and the Gusties hope to keep their hot streaks alive this weekend as they compete at the 2013 MIAC Golf Championship. The three-day, 54-hole conference championship tournament will be held Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn. The first two rounds begin at 11:20 a.m., with Monday's final round teeing off at 9 a.m. An awards ceremony will conclude the tournament Monday afternoon.
