MIAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week

Annika Halverson, Bethel
Wayzata, Minn. / Wayzata

The Bethel women's track and field team had a great showing at the Darren Young Classic at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, with a top-four team finish. Individually, the Royals' top highlight came courtesy of Annika Halverson (Wayzata, Minn.) who continued her marvelous rookie season with an outstanding performance in the one-mile run. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Halverson Wednesday with the MIAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Halverson finished second in the mile at the Darren Young Classic against a loaded field that featured some of the best Division III competition in the region. Her time of 5:00.99 wasn't just good for a top-two showing in the race, it also ranks as the No. 2 time in the MIAC this season, and the 10th best time in all of NCAA Division III this winter. Halverson also has the MIAC's third-best time in the 1,000-meter run and she ranks 13th in the 3K.

Bethel and its standout rookie runner will try to continue their strong indoor seasons this weekend against a loaded field that will include teams from each of the NCAAs three divisions. The Royals will travel to Minneapolis Saturday to compete in the University of Minnesota's Parents Day Open at 10 a.m. The meet will take place at the Minnesota Fieldhouse. After that, Bethel only has one more meet to prepare for the 2015 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

MIAC Women's Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week

Damali Britton, Carleton
Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Vista

The Carleton women's track and field team embraced the Valentine's Day spirit and finished second as a team at their Kelly Family Meet of the Hearts Saturday in Northfield. Rookie jumper Damali Britton (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) played a huge part in the Knights' success with a pair of top-two finishes, and she tied one school record in the process. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Britton Wednesday with the MIAC Women's Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week award.

Britton's big day included a first-place finish in the long jump and tying the school indoor record with a runner-up finish in the triple jump. She traveled a distance of 17-2.25 feet (5.24 meters) to earn her victory in the long jump, and that distance ranks No. 2 in the MIAC this season. Then, she tied the Knights' school triple jump record with a distance of 35-2 feet (10.72 meters), which also got second-place honors in the meet and also ranks No. 2 in the conference this season. Britton added one more top-10 finish, as she took ninth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.11 seconds.

Carleton will try to continue its strong indoor season this weekend against a loaded field that will include teams from each of the NCAAs three divisions.
