A Century of Champions: Horace Gant

Horace Gant

One of the finest wide receivers in MIAC football history, Horace Gant was a four-time All-Conference selection at St. Olaf from 2004-07. Gant established himself as a field-tilting player in his very first collegiate game when he hauled in an 80-yard game-winning touchdown in the final minute of play to help the Oles overcome a 30-6 halftime deficit against Luther College. Gant - who also competed on the Oles' track and field team during the football offseason - would go on to become St. Olaf's all-time leader in receptions (185), receiving yards (3,061), and receiving touchdowns (27).

An All-MIAC honoree in all four seasons at St. Olaf, Gant earned Second Team All-Conference honors as a freshman in 2004 before moving up to the First Team in each of his final three years. He was named to the D3football.com All-America Third Team as a senior after catching 65 passes for 1,121 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2007. He signed a professional contract with the NFL's Washington Redskins as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2008 and spent the season on the team's practice squad. He was picked up by the St. Louis Rams in 2009 before hanging up his spikes.
