MIAC Athletes of the Week – Oct. 10, 2017

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for men's and women's cross country and women's golf on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Carleton, Concordia and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors for Oct. 3 – Oct. 9, 2017.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated and selected by the Conference's sports information directors. Throughout the fall season, team sports (football, volleyball and soccer) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (cross country and golf) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Eric Wicklund
Concordia College
Moorhead, Minn.

Sophomore runner Eric Wicklund posted his second top-10 finish of the season, crossing the finish line in 25:45.00 at the Jimmie Invitational last weekend. Wicklund helped the Cobbers to a sixth-place finish at the meet and has led Concordia in three of the four events he has raced in this season.

MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Bryony Hawgood
St. Olaf College

Harare, Zimbabwe | Arundel

Bryony Hawgood placed first out of 85 runners at the St. Kate's Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore runner finished the 5K in 19:02.50, helping the No. 18-ranked Oles finish atop the leaderboard for the first time this season.

MIAC Women's Golf Athletes of the Week

Carleton College

Beijing City, China | Lighthouse Christian Academy

Junior golfer Ziyi Wang tied the Conference 54-hole individual record with an eight-over-par 224 to win medalist honors at the 2017 MIAC Women's Golf Championships over the weekend. Wang is the fifth consecutive Knight to win MIAC individual honors. This is her second Athlete of the Week honor this season.
