BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for men's and women's swimming and diving on Tuesday. Student-athletes from St. Thomas claimed the Conference's weekly honors for Oct. 17 – Oct. 23, 2017.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated and selected by the Conference's sports information directors. Throughout the fall season, team sports (football, volleyball and soccer) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming and diving) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week
Bailey Biwer
University of St. Thomas

Senior Bailey Biwer had a hand in three firsts to lead the Tommies at the St. Thomas Relays on Saturday. Biwer competed on the winning 200 free (1:26.35) and 800 free (1:44.65) relays, as well as the 400 individual medley (IM) relay (7:07.79). His split of 52.42 on the IM relay anchor is the fastest time thus far for a 100 IM in all of NCAA Division III.

MIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week
Katelyn Strauss
University of St. Thomas

Junior Katelyn Strauss helped St. Thomas to a trio of victories at the St. Thomas Relays last weekend. Strauss anchored the Toms' first-place 300 fly relay and 400 free relay teams, the latter of which registered a time of 3:38.92. Strauss also led off the 800 free relay squad, which finished in 8:09.64 for another first-place finish.
