BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for men's and women's swimming and diving on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Gustavus and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors for Nov. 27 – Dec. 5, 2017.
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated and selected by the Conference's sports information directors. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball and hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming and diving) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

Gustavus junior Tanner Sonnek won both the 100 individual medley (53.10) and 200 breaststroke (2:05.55) in addition to being a member of the victorious 200 freestyle relay team (1:27.52) to help the Gusties claim first place out of 11 teams at Grinnell's Pioneer Classic over the weekend. Sonnek also took second in the 100 breaststroke, third in the 200 individual medley and sixth in the 100 butterfly while contributing to a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay and third in the 400 medley relay.
MIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week
St. Olaf first-year swimmer Sophia Nevin set a new Ole record with a time of 1:04.73 in the 100 breaststroke at last Saturday's Rochester Invitational. The mark ranks 17th in all of NCAA Division III this season.
