BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The 2018 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships are in full swing following an afternoon of multi-events on Thursday and an action-packed set of prelims and finals on Friday at Macalester College.

Heading into the final day of competition, the University of St. Thomas holds commanding leads in both the men's and women's team standings, with 90 points on the men's side and 100 on the women's. The Bethel University women have 51 points while the men have 62 to put the Royals in second place for each sport, while Carleton College is third with 58 points for the men and 50.50 for the women.

Friday's action was highlighted by a pair of record-breaking performances. Augsburg's Emmanuel Egbujor set a new meet record with a time of 6.81 to win the 60-meter dash. The time broke the previous record of 6.82 set by another Auggie – Undre Smith-Brewer – at last year's meet. Gustavus first-year phenom Taylor Rooney broke Joe Wistricill's six-year-old record of 8.40 in the 60-meter hurdles by pulling off an 8.16 in prelims. Rooney then beat that mark with an 8.15 in finals to finish first with a new MIAC best time.

The 2018 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship will conclude Saturday at Macalester. The final session starts with 10:15 a.m. field events and 1 p.m. track events. Saturday's final event begins at 4:05 p.m., and there will be a short awards ceremony following the conclusion of the meet to honor both team champions. The top three individuals in each event and the first-place relay team will automatically earn All-Conference honors, and the 4th-through-6th place finishers in each open event and 2nd-through-6th place relay teams will all be named All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The MIAC has a homepage dedicated to the 2018 Indoor Championships, complete with venue and admission information, the event schedule, entries, heat sheets and links to follow the action via webcast and real-time results. Results, recaps, and multimedia coverage of the Championships will be available throughout the event.
