BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for baseball and softball on Monday. Student-athletes from Bethel, Saint Benedict and Saint John's claimed the Conference's weekly honors for March 5-11, 2018.
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated and selected by the Conference's sports information directors. Throughout the spring season, team sports (softball, baseball) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (tennis, outdoor track and field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Austin Ledin went 9-for-16 at the plate with three home runs and eight runs batted in as the Royals went 5-0 last week. Ledin had at least one hit in every contest, including a pair of home runs against Buena Vista on March 8. He followed up that performance with two doubles and another homer in a win against Skidmore on March 11, bringing his batting average for the week to .563 and his slugging percentage to 1.375 with an on-base percentage of .667 in the month of March.
MIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

In his first action of 2018, Danny Kuhn allowed one run on four hits, while striking out 18 batters and walking none in 11 innings en route to a 2-0 record and a 0.82 earned-run average last week in Ft. Myers, Fla. The junior pitcher retired the first 11 batters he faced in the Johnnies' season-opening 17-2 win on March 5 over Finlandia and bounced back on two-days rest to pitch six scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over Defiance.

Megan Toninato batted .514 with 18 hits and five runs batted in over 10 games for CSB last week. She moved runners with a bunt for a single in the top of the eighth inning to help beat No. 21 Central, 5-4, in eight innings, and also had an RBI single in the fifth against No. 11 St. John Fisher to put CSB up 3-2. The senior infielder had five multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 performance in a 13-1 win over Coe. She also finished the week with 66 putouts over the 10-game stretch.

Ally Hjort had went 3-1 in five appearances on the mound for CSB in Arizona last week, leading Saint Ben's with 26.2 innings pitched. The first-year southpaw threw the final three innings of a 5-4, eight-inning win over No. 21 Central and tossed the final four frames in the team's 10-4 win over No. 5 Trine. Hjort also struck out a career-high 10 batters in a 6-5, nine-inning loss to No. 11 St. John Fisher. She finished the week with 25 strikeouts and a 1.31 ERA.
