MIAC Athletes of the Week – March 20, 2018


BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for tennis on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Saint Benedict and St. Thomas claimed the Conference's weekly honors for March 12-19, 2018.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated and selected by the Conference's sports information directors. Throughout the spring season, team sports (softball, baseball) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (tennis, outdoor track and field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Nick Vossen
University of St. Thomas
Lakeville, Minn. | Lakeville North

One of three freshmen in UST's lineup, Nick Vossen played a key role in the Tommies' hard-fought 6-3 win over St. Olaf last Saturday. Vossen won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles with fellow freshman Jordan Schenck and came back to win at No. 3 singles 6-2, 5-2 (retired) to improve to 5-2 in solo play on the season.

MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Mackenzie Schurhamer
College of Saint Benedict

Woodbury, Minn.

Mackenzie Schurhamer went 3-1 to help CSB split a pair of matches over the weekend and picked up one of just two singles wins for the team against Division II Minn.-Duluth. She leads the team with 12 singles wins this season and is tied for third on the Saint Ben's squad with nine doubles wins.
