MIAC swimmers and divers earn CSCAA Scholar All-America honors

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Academic honors continue to roll in for Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) programs, as the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has recognized 10 MIAC swimming and diving teams and another 10 individual student-athletes from the Conference with Scholar All-America honors.

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams from Carleton, Gustavus, Macalester and St. Olaf, along with the women's squads from Saint Benedict and St. Catherine all earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors, achieving a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the Spring 2018 semester.

Macalester ranked in the top-10 among all Division III programs in both sports, as the Scots' women's team ranked fifth in the nation with a cumulative team GPA of 3.75, while the men ranked No. 10 with a GPA of 3.51. St. Catherine University also recorded a top-10 GPA, as the Wildcats ranked No. 6 among all Division III women's programs with a cumulative GPA of 3.74. A total of 710 teams representing 476 institutions from across all NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA Divisions were honored with Scholar All-America recognition for the Spring 2018 semester.

In addition to team honors, the CSCAA also recognized seven women and three men from the MIAC with individual Scholar All-America accolades, which are awarded to student-athletes who achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher in addition to posting a "B" time standard. Gustavus' Kennedy Holwerda and Maddie Westendorp joined St. Olaf's Caitlin Croasdell as All-America Scholar individuals, while Carleton's Caroline Mather and a trio of Oles including Helen Jensen, Sophia Nevin and Rose Peterson earned honorable mention recognition. On the men's side, Gustavus' Mack Christianson joined St. Olaf's Leif Jorgensen and John Loepfe as honorable mention awardees.
