BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for golf and cross country on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Augsburg, Carleton, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors for September 18-24, 2018.
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the fall season, team sports (football, soccer and volleyball) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (cross country and golf) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
St. Olaf College
Champaign, Ill. | University Lab School
Jonah Herzog finished sixth overall with a time of 26:58.5 at the St. Olaf Invitational and led the Oles to a third-place finish as a team. This is Herzog's second top-10 finish this season for the Oles, who are ranked 18th in the nation in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 35 Poll.
MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Amanda Mosborg was the top D-III finisher at the St. Olaf Invitational last weekend. She clocked a time of 22:54.6 and placed third overall in the field of 157, bested only by a pair of runners from the University of Minnesota. Carleton - ranked No. 9 in Division III - finished second in the 12-team competition to the Golden Gophers, who are ranked No. 24 amongst all Division I programs.
MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week
Glenwood, Minn. | Minnewaska
Brett Buckingham tied for the top score among Division III competitors at the Gustavus Twin Cities Classic over the weekend. His 6-over-par 222 tied for second in the 98-golfer field, as the junior was one of only nine golfers to finish with a single-digit over-par score. Buckingham leads the Auggies with a 73.9 stroke average and .871 win-loss percentage on the season.
MIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week
Terrace Park, Ohio | Seven Hills School
Alyssa Akiyama earned medalist honors in leading Carleton to a team victory at the St. Catherine University Invitational at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club. She carded a 3-over-par 76 on Saturday to grab the lead and followed it up with a 2-over par 75 in the final round. Her 5-over par total of 151 was a season-best.
