BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for basketball and hockey on Monday. Student-athletes from Saint Benedict, St. Catherine, Saint John's, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors for Jan. 7-13, 2019.
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball, hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming and diving, indoor track and field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

David Stokman shot 59.4 percent from the field, including 60 percent from three-point range, and averaged 18.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in addition to five made three-pointers per game as SJU went 3-0 with a trio of wins last week. The senior guard led the Johnnies with 23 points in Monday's 83-44 win over Concordia and 21 points in Saturday's 87-60 victory over St. Olaf, the 20th and 21st 20-point games of his career. Stokman posted an assist-turnover ratio of 6.0 in the three games.

Megan Thompson averaged 21 points and 3.5 steals per game last week to help CSB pick up a pair of Conference victories. The sophomore guard had 15 points in a key road win at Gustavus before going off for a career-high 27 points against St. Olaf. Thompson went 11-for-17 from the field against the Oles and finished the week shooting 60 percent from the floor.

Tuukka Totro scored three goals in two non-conference road games for St. Olaf last week, including his first career two-goal game in a 3-2 loss at No. 3 Wis.-Eau Claire on Saturday evening. With the Oles trailing 3-0 late to the nationally-ranked Blugolds, the junior scored twice in the span of 1:37 inside the final six minutes to bring his team within a goal. His goal the night before gave St. Olaf a lead midway through the second period before Wis.-River Falls rallied in the third.

Brede Postier tallied five points in a weekend series with St. Olaf to help the Wildcats record their first MIAC win and tie of the season. The senior forward netted all four of the Wildcats' regulation goals and provided the first assist on the team's game-winner versus the Oles in overtime on Saturday. She now leads St. Kate's with seven goals on the season.
