BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for tennis on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Gustavus and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's honors for Feb. 19-25, 2019.
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Transitioning into the spring season, team sports (baseball, softball) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (tennis, golf, outdoor track and field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College

Nick Aney played a large part in Gustavus winning the consolation title at the ITA Indoor Championships, going a combined 6-0 between singles and doubles in three matches against nationally-ranked teams. In singles, Aney won two matches in straight sets after starting the tournament down 6-2 after the first set. He then battled back to win 6-2, 6-2 at his No. 5 position. In doubles play, Aney and partner Yassine Derbani went undefeated at the No. 2 slot.
MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week
St. Olaf College
Katy, Texas | Seven Lakes
Sabrina Barboza won both her matches at the top positions in the lineup for St. Olaf in a 6-3 win over Luther last Friday evening. The sophomore paired with Greta Prokosch for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles to help the Oles take a 2-1 lead into singles. She then put St. Olaf's fourth point on the board with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
