MIAC Athletes of the Week - 2018-19

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for baseball and softball on Monday. Student-athletes from Gustavus, Macalester, and Saint John's claimed the Conference's honors for March 11-17, 2019.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Transitioning into the spring season, team sports (baseball, softball) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (tennis, golf, outdoor track and field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

Wyatt Ulrich led SJU with nine hits, going 9-for-19 with a .474 average from the leadoff spot as SJU went 4-0 to start its four-day trip in Tucson, Ariz. Ulrich also batted in five runs and crossed home plate four times himself in the four games, while batting .545 (6-for-11) with runners on base and .500 (4-for-8) with runners in scoring position. He also went 3-for-4 against fellow lefties.

Matthew Plisko struck out nine batters while allowing only a walk and one hit in five innings of work as Macalester cruised to a 17-1 season-opening win against Allegheny on Saturday. The nine Ks represent a new career-high for the junior righty, who earned All-MIAC honors after going 7-3 overall with a 0.96 ERA against conference opponents as a sophomore last season.

Watertown, Minn. | Watertown-Mayer

Caitlin Kammerer had a hit in all six of the Gusties' games in Tucson, Ariz. last week and batted in the game-winning scores in both of the team's one-run victories. The junior outfielder is 9-for-18 on the trip with five runs batted in, racking up three triples and a team-leading 10 runs scored along the way.

Ashley Neuenfeldt appeared in five of the six Gustavus contests in Tucson, Ariz. last week, recording three wins, three complete games, and one save during her time in the circle. The sophomore struck out 22 batters in 24 innings of work, allowing just three earned runs on 14 hits.
