MIAC Athletes of the Week - 2018-19

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for baseball and softball on Monday. Student-athletes from Macalester, Saint Mary's, and St. Thomas claimed the Conference's honors for April 8-14, 2019.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the spring season, team sports (baseball, softball) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (tennis, golf, outdoor track and field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Graham Low raised his MIAC-leading batting average to .500 by going 5-for-6 (.833) with a double, a home run, and two RBI in a split with Augsburg last Tuesday. Low was a perfect 3-for-3 in the first game before belting a home run and hitting an RBI-double in a 5-2 Game 2 victory. Low slugged 1.500 and posted an on-base percentage of .857 in the two contests.

Ryan Wolfe tossed a complete-game, eight-inning shutout against St. Thomas last Tuesday, striking out four and walking just one while allowing six hits in a 4-0 Saint Mary's victory. The complete game was the second of Wolfe's career and his second against the Tommies, against whom he has thrown 17 straight scoreless innings.

Melissa Barry became the 19th player in MIAC history to reach 200 career hits, doing so in dramatic fashion last week by way of a home run against UW-La Crosse on Tuesday. The senior infielder collected eight hits - including four doubles - and batted in six runs while crossing home plate nine times herself as St. Thomas went 6-0 for the week. Barry has reached base safely in 17 straight games and has been equally impressive in the field, converting all 19 defensive chances in three double-headers last week.

Kierstin Anderson-Glass went 4-0 on the week, including three MIAC victories in a 24-hour time span, while allowing just two runs in 19 innings of work. She threw a four-hit shutout of UW-La Crosse on Tuesday with seven strikeouts and no walks before recording a complete-game two-hit shutout of Carleton on Saturday night. Anderson-Glass returned to the circle for two wins against Saint Mary's on Sunday and now has 301 strikeouts in 307 career innings.
