MIAC swimmers and divers earn CSCAA Scholar All-America honors

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Academic honors continue to roll in for Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) programs, as the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has recognized 12 MIAC swimming and diving teams and another 24 individual student-athletes from the Conference with Scholar All-America honors.

Macalester College and St. Catherine University led all of Division III with cumulative team GPAs of 3.79 and 3.76, respectively for the Scots' and Wildcats' women's teams. The Macalester men's team ranked second in the nation with a team GPA of 3.70, while St. Olaf's men's team tied for the fifth-best team GPA at 3.58. The men's and women's swimming and diving teams from Carleton, Gustavus, Macalester, St. Olaf and St. Thomas, along with the women's squads from Saint Benedict and St. Catherine all earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors, achieving a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the Spring 2019 semester. A total of 777 teams representing 480 institutions from across all NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA Divisions were honored with Scholar All-America recognition for the Spring 2019 semester.

In addition to team honors, the CSCAA also recognized 19 women and five men from the MIAC with individual Scholar All-America accolades, which are awarded to student-athletes who achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher in addition to competing at the NCAA Championships.

Honorable mention Scholar All-America student-athletes for MIAC women included Carleton's Kapani Kirkland and Ada Meyer, Gustavus' Hailey Auran, St. Catherine's Gabby Page, St. Olaf's Caitlin Croasdell and Kelly Punyko, and St. Thomas' Gretchen Behrens and Emily Weldon. On the men's side, Carleton's Jack Heinzel joined St. Olaf's Leif Jorgensen Duus and John Loepfe, as well as St. Thomas' Adam Boerner and Noah Faldet as honorable mention Scholar All-America selections.

Three Oles' - Caitlin Croasdell, Leif Jorgensen Duus and John Loepfe - earned Scholar All-America recognition for the third year in a row. Croasdell was selected outright in 2018 and picked up honorable mention distinction in 2017 and 2019, while Loepfe was a First Team pick in 2017 and has garnered honorable mention consideration each of the last two seasons. Jorgensen Duus locked down his third consecutive honorable mention award, while fellow Northfield competitors Sophia Nevin (St. Olaf) and Caroline Mather (Carleton) both became repeat honorees after collecting honorable mention accolades last year.
