BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) will celebrate its 100-year anniversary during the 2019-20 season, the conference announced today.
The 12th-oldest athletic conference in the NCAA, the MIAC was formed with seven charter members on March 15, 1920. Fourteen Minnesota-based institutions of higher education have called the MIAC home since then, with eight maintaining membership for more than 90 years and two remaining aligned with the conference since day one. The MIAC is currently comprised of 13 member institutions and offers 22 NCAA sports with more than 7,000 students competing annually.
The conference's Centennial celebration will highlight the many outstanding moments, memories, and individuals who helped build the MIAC over the last century. The #MIAC100 digital campaign will officially launch on September 1, 2019 and run through May 31, 2020. Initiatives will include student-athlete, coach, and administrator spotlights, historical photos showcasing the evolution of MIAC sports and teams through the years, recognition of former MIAC student-athletes who continued their time in the conference as coaches and administrators, and more.
To kick off the Centennial celebration, the MIAC has launched a redesigned conference website through its partnership with PrestoSports. The fully responsive website is designed to make the most relevant and essential conference-related items - including news, standings, records, and championship information - more easily accessible for MIAC fans on every platform and device. The MIAC Front Row app also remains available for free download on both the App Store and Google Play.
The MIAC has also unveiled its Centennial logo, created by Skye Dillon of Skye Design Studios, to commemorate the historic year. Dillon and the conference previously worked together in 2017 to develop the MIAC's logo and branding refresh.
The official #MIAC100 webpage will be housed at https://www.miacathletics.com/miac100. MIAC fans can keep up to date with daily Centennial postings on MIACathletics.com, as well as on the conference's Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms. Fans, athletes, and alumni are invited to share their own MIAC memories and photos from the last 100 years on social media using the hashtag #MIAC100.
