NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The 2019 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships continued on Friday with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon and an action-packed set of prelims and finals at St. Olaf College.

With one day of competition remaining, the University of St. Thomas holds leads in both the men's and women's team standings, with 103 points on the men's side and 97 on the women's. Carleton is second in the men's standings and third in the women's standings with 55 and 46 points, respectively. Hamline has a firm grasp on second place in the women's standings with 69 points, while Bethel sits just two points behind the Knights in the men's standings.

Friday's action was highlighted by a pair of record-breaking performances. In his first race of the day, Gustavus sophomore Taylor Rooney took down his own MIAC meet record in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.14 in prelims. Rooney had set the mark at 8.15 in the finals of last year's Indoor Championships. In addition to a victory in the hurdles, Rooney also won the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters in finals.

On the women's side, Phoebe Aguiar broke Allison Kosobud's five-year-old meet record in the 800-meters when the Macalester senior clocked in at 2:12.67 to win the event by nearly five full seconds. Aguiar set the overall MIAC record in the event by crossing the finish line in 2:11.24 - the fastest time in Division III this season - at last weekend's Parents Day Open at the University of Minnesota.

In addition to individual events, the men's heptathlon also wrapped up on Friday. Concordia junior Matt Bye claimed the conference title in the event with a total of 4,856 points. Bye won the 60-meter hurdles (8.66), long jump (6.43m), and shot put (12.10m), and finished second in the high jump (1.90m) and pole vault (4.10m) to run away with top honors. The St. Thomas tandem of Jordan Johnson and Tyler Adler finished second and third in the heptathlon standings, respectively.

The 2019 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship will conclude Saturday at St. Olaf College. The final session starts with 11:00 a.m. field events and 1:00 p.m. track events. The day's last event begins at 4:05 p.m., and there will be a short awards ceremony following the conclusion of the meet to honor both team champions. The top three individuals in each event and the first-place relay team will automatically earn All-Conference honors, and the 4th-through-6th place finishers in each open event and 2nd-through-6th place relay teams will all be named All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The MIAC has a homepage dedicated to the 2019 Indoor Championships, complete with venue and admission information, the event schedule, entries, heat sheets and links to follow the action via webcast and real-time results. Results, recaps, and multimedia coverage of the Championships will be available throughout the event.

Admission for the event is $10 for adults and $2 for students per day, with children ages 5 and under admitted free. MIAC passes will be honored. The MIAC would like to thank St. Olaf College and their coaches and staff for their efforts to host the event.
