Saint John's University junior pitcher Adam Johnson (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central Area) allowed just two hits, struck out five and walked none in a complete-game shutout of Bethel in the second game of a doubleheader on May 2. The win improved his record to 3-2 on the season and clinched the Johnnies’ first 20-win season and MIAC Tournament appearance since 2003.

Lonnie Robinson, St. Olaf

Pitcher - University of St. Thomas junior right-handed pitcher Lonnie Robinson (Brooklyn Park/Osseo) had two solid starts to help St. Thomas get two key victories and stay in the MIAC title race. After Hamline pounded UST 13-2 in game one, Robinson shut down the Pipers on four hits and one run with no walks and seven strikeouts in a 6-1, complete-game win. He allowed a first-inning solo HR to standout Andrew Bennett but retired 12 of the last 13. Leading 2-1, he got Bennett to pop out with runners at second and third to end the inning. He helped the Toms avert their first three-game MIAC losing streak in more than 10 years. Saturday at St. Olaf, Robinson allowed no earned runs, three hits and two walks and left after three innings with a 2-1 lead in an eventual 4-3 victory. In MIAC play, Robinson is 3-0 with a 2.21 ERA with 19 strikeouts and six walks in 21 innings.

Riley Bosch, St. Thomas

Pitcher - University of St. Thomas senior right-handed pitcher Riley Bosch (Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake) lowered his conference-best ERA to 0.99 and extended his scoreless-inning streak to 17 as he pitched seven shutout innings in the Tommies' 5-1 win over a potent St. Scholastica team. Bosch (5-1 on the season) helped end a 15-game win streak for the Saints (now 22-4), who lead Division III in runs per game with 12.3 (St. Scholastica swept Gustavus 13-1 and 7-0 on Sunday). Bosch, who outdueled CSS All-America pitcher Matt Moriarity, struck out six, walked two and scattered five hits. Leading 3-0, Bosch used an inning-ending strikeout to dash a bases-loaded threat in the seventh inning. Bosch is scheduled to make his 50th career mound appearance Tuesday vs. Hamline. St. Thomas is 21-8 overall and tied for second in the MIAC with eight games remaining.


Case Paxton, Saint John's

Pitcher - Saint John's University sophomore relief pitcher Case Paxton (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo) allowed three hits and one run (unearned) in 5 1/3 innings of relief (3 appearances) to earn two saves and his second victory of the season last week for the Johnnies. Paxton allowed one hit in two innings of relief to improve his record to 2-0 on the season in SJU’s 2-1 win in 10 innings over Hamline in Game 1 on April 14, and then pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn his second save of the season in the 5-3 win in Game 2. Paxton allowed one hit and struck out one in 2 innings of scoreless relief to earn his third save of the season in the Johnnies’ 5-3 win over Gustavus the following day on April 15. In addition to his 2-0 record with three saves, Paxton boasts a 1.62 ERA in a team-high 11 appearances and 16 2/3 innings of relief so far this season.

Todd Mathison, St. Olaf

Pitcher - St. Olaf College sophomore pitcher Todd Mathison (Northfield, Minn.) threw a three-hit shutout to lead the St. Olaf baseball team to a 3-0 win over Macalester College in the first half of an MIAC-opening doubleheader on Monday. Mathison struck out eight and walked only one to improve to 4-0 on the year with the win and 6-0 in MIAC games in his career. He is yet to give up an earned run in seven career league appearances (38.1 innings). Mathison has a 1.84 ERA and has allowed three earned runs in the his last 28-plus innings (0.96 ERA). St. Olaf, ranked ninth in the latest ABCA Poll, hosts Saint Mary's University this afternoon.

Kyle Foster, Hamline

Pitcher - Hamline University senior pitcher Kyle Foster (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) pitched a complete game five-hitter to lead Hamline to a 4-3 win over Augsburg. Riley Bosch, St. Thomas

Pitcher - University of St. Thomas senior pitcher Riley Bosch (Vadnais Hights, Minn./White Bear Lake) went 2-0 with an 0.51 ERA and nine strikeouts and five walks in 15.1 innings in Florida last week. Last Monday, he pitched 8 1-3 innings and allowed one earned run and eight hits to beat No. 26-ranked Salisbury, 7-2. (Salisbury is now 19-3.) Four days later he silenced UW-Oshkosh on six hits, no earned runs and no walks in seven innings in the Toms' 13-4 win. Bosch moved his career record to 9-9 with 143 strikeouts and 56 walks in 46 appearances. The No. 18-ranked Tommies have won 10 of their last 12 and start defense of their MIAC championship Saturday with a doubleheader vs. Gustavus.

Ted Kimble, Macalester

Pitcher - Macalester College senior pitcher Ted Kimble (Pine Island, Minn.) went 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA in a couple of appearances over Spring Break week in Phoenix. In 14 innings of work, he gave up six runs, six earned runs and held opponents to a .255 batting average. Kimble worked five innings, giving up six hits and four runs, in a 12-7 victory over Springfield. In an 8-2 win over No. 4-ranked College of New Jersey, he went all nine innings, giving up eight hits while fanning six.
