Tim Cornish, Bethel

Bethel University sophomore kick returner Tim Cornish ­(Plymouth, Minn.) erased a 7-0 Johnnies lead just 15 seconds after they had gone ahead by that score when he returned the ensuing kickoff 86-yards for a touchdown. The return is Bethel¹s first of the season, and it is the second touchdown Cornish has scored this season. He previously ran an interception back for a touchdown in a non-conference game against Simpson earlier this season.

Paul Fortman, St. Olaf

St. Olaf College senior punter/kicker Paul Fortman (Stillwater, Minn.) was 11-for-11 on PATs, to extend his streak to 54 without a miss, and averaged 39.0 yards on four punts, including a 51-yard long punt in the Oles' win over Carleton on Saturday. Fortman leads the MIAC in punting (42.1 yards/punt) and scoring by kickers (8.7 points/game). His 78 points ranks fourth among all players.

Ben Wartman, St. Thomas

University of St. Thomas freshman wide receiver Ben Wartman (Prior Lake, Minn.) blocked a punt late in the first half of Saturday's 51-34 loss at Saint John's. Wartman plays on two special teams as well as playing wideout. A converted running back, Wartman also took 20 snaps on offense at wide receiver and is a blocker on the punt and kickoff return teams. He has eight receptions for 51 yards on the season. Wartman is one of 16 freshmen in starting, backup or special teams roles for the Tommies.

Paul Fortman, St. Olaf

St. Olaf College senior punter/kicker Paul Fortman (Stillwater, Minn.) kept St. Olaf close in Bethel's 35-14 win over the Oles on Saturday. He punted four times for a 53-yard average, including a pair of 60-yard efforts, and had two downed inside the Bethel 3-yard line. He added two touchbacks on three kickoffs and made both PAT attempts to extend his streak to 47 without a miss. He leads the MIAC in punting (42.7 yards/punt), scoring by kickers (8.4 pts/game) and is fifth overall in scoring.

St. Olaf College senior kicker/punter Paul Fortman (Stillwater, Minn.) went 7-for-7 on PAT tries to extend his streak to 45 without a miss. Fortman added two punts for a 48.0/punt average and threw a pass on a fake punt for a 20-yard gain that set up his 35-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

Andrew Schmiesing, St. Olaf

Week of: 2007-10-08

St. Olaf College senior wide receiver/punt returner Andrew Schmiesing (Stillwater, Minn.) returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in the Oles' 30-29 loss at No. 3/4 Saint John's. With SJU leading 14-9 in the closing minutes of the first half, Schmiesing went untouched to give St. Olaf a 16-14 lead.

St. Olaf College senior kicker/punter Paul Fortman (Stillwater, Minn.) was 8-for-8 on PAT's, hit his only field goal attempt from 38 yards, blasted his only [non-blocked] punt 59 yards to the Gusties' 5-yard line and made two touchdown-saving tackles on a kickoff return and a blocked punt in the Oles' 59-19 win over Gustavus on Saturday. His eight PATs extended his streak to 36 without a miss, dating to week nine of 2006. He's hit each of his 32 extra point attempts this season and has gone 4-of-6 on field goal attempts. He is 4 of 6 on field goals this year, and 4-for-4 inside 40 yards. He leads the MIAC in punting (39.9 yards/punt).

Paul Shol, Concordia

Concordia College junior wide receiver Paul Shol (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls HS) offered one of the lone highlights in the Cobbers' 52-21 loss at Saint John's on Saturday. In the third quarter, Shol returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown for one of Concordia's three scores on the day. It was the first time since 1993 that a Cobber player had returned a kickoff for a touchdown. It was also the second longest kickoff return in program history. For the day, Shol had five kickoff returns for 170 yards and averaged 34.0 yards on kickoff returns.

St. Olaf College senior kicker/punter Paul Fortman (Stillwater, Minn.) was 8-for-8 on PATs and blasted a 57-yard punt on his only effort of the day in St. Olaf's 56-7 win over Hamline on Saturday. He also averaged 59.1 yards on nine kickoffs giving Hamline an average drive starting at their own 28 yardline.

Carson Jones, St. Olaf

St. Olaf College sophomore defensive back Carson Jones (Farmington, Minn.) sparked St. Olaf to a 45-14 victory over Valley City State. Jones converted a 4th down from punt formation with a nine-yard run, returned five kickoffs for 160 yards (32.0 average), and had two solo tackles, an assisted tackle, and a pass breakup.

Russell Gliadon, Saint John's

Week of: 2007-09-04

Saint John's University junior place kicker/punter Russ Gliadon booted field goals of 35 yards and 34 yards, respectively, and was a perfect 7-for-7 on PAT attempts in last Saturday’s 55-14 win over Marietta, Ohio. Moving the ball back to the 30-yard line on kickoffs failed to serve as a problem for the junior either. Gliadon averaged 64.6 yards on five kickoffs, of which two were touchbacks. In addition, Gliadon averaged 57.5 yards on two punts (long of 60) in the game.
