Leon Clark, St. Olaf

St. Olaf College first-year returner Leon Clark (Rochester, Minn./Century) returned a kick 78 yards for a touchdown in the Oles' 31-10 win over Hamline on Saturday. The score came with St. Olaf leading 21-10 on the kickoff following HU's only touchdown of the afternoon. With the win, St. Olaf finishes the season with a 6-4 record (4-4 in the MIAC) and has gone 37-13 over the last five seasons.

Kane Bechstein, Carleton

Week of: 2008-11-10

Carleton College senior cornerback Kane Bechstein (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) blocked a fourth-quarter punt to set up Carleton's final score, which sealed a 41-28 win at Concordia. Bechstein added two tackles and one pass breakup on the afternoon. Carleton will now host Saint John's this Saturday to determine the MIAC Champion.

Tim Kane, Carleton

Week of: 2008-11-03

Carleton College senior kicker Tim Kane (Hopkins, Minn.) made all four point-after attempts, including the game winner with 2:28 remaining as Carleton overcame a 13-point deficit and defeated Hamline, 28-27. The win moved the Knights into a tie for first place and gives Carleton (6-2) its first winning season since 1993. In addition to going 4-4 on PAT attempts, Kane averaged 56.0 yards on five kickoffs.

Fritz Waldvogel, St. Thomas

Week of: 2008-10-27

University of St. Thomas first-year kick returner/wide receiver Fritz Waldvogel (Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) had a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter that helped the Tommies take a 33-31 victory over Carleton. In the game's final minute, with UST down 31-27, Waldvogel converted a first down with a 4th-and-1 reception to keep a game-winning drive alive, and UST won on the game's last play. Waldvogel caught six passes for 96 yards and has 42 catches for 633 yards and four TDs in seven college games. His punt return touchdown was just the third in the MIAC this season. The 5-2 Tommies have won four of their last five games and are assured of a.500 or better finish after going 2-8 in 2007.

Carl Hauser, Concordia

Concordia College junior kicker Carl Hauser (Fergus Falls, Minn.) kicked the game-winning field goal with :12 to play against Hamline to give the Cobbers an 18-17 victory and push Concordia into first place in the MIAC. The Cobbers now sit alone in first place in the conference with a 4-1 record in the MIAC and 5-2 overall. Hauser connected on a 27-yard attempt into a stiff wind for the game winner. Hauser also had four kickoffs in the game and had one touchback. His average kick went 48.2 yards.

Brian Berglund, Gustavus

Week of: 2008-10-20

Gustavus Adolphus College senior defensive lineman Brian Berglund (Lauderdale, Minn./Roseville Area) blocked two point after attempts in a 30-29 overtime win over No. 22 Carleton College on Saturday in Northfield. Berglund blocked the potentially game-winning extra point attempt with ten seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, forcing the contest into overtime. In overtime, Berglund was credited with another blocked point after attempt giving the Gusties the victory. With the win, Gustavus improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC. This was the first win for the Gusties over a ranked team since 2001 when Gustavus defeated sixth-ranked Trinity (TX) 37-26.

Matt Wetherell, Bethel

Week of: 2008-10-13

Bethel University first-year kicker Matt Wetherell (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) was a perfect 4-for-4 on point after attempts and made a 30-yard field goal to help Bethel win 31-7 over St. Olaf on Saturday. Wetherell also averaged 52.7 yards on his six kickoffs.

Russell Gliadon, Saint John's

Week of: 2008-10-06

Saint John's University senior kicker/punter Russell Gliadon (Fridley, Minn.) averaged 45.0 yards on four punts, including a long of 61 yards. Two of Gliadon's punts were booted inside Bethel's 20-yard line, while another barely rolled into the end zone for a touchback. Gliadon also connected on a 29-yard field goal, his only attempt of the game, which cut Bethel's lead to 7-3 with 2:51 remaining in the second quarter.

David Tilton, Augsburg

Week of: 2008-09-29

Augsburg College sophomore returner and running back David Tilton (Anoka, Minn.) returned a kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown with 26 seconds left in the first quarter, giving Augsburg a 28-7 advantage, en route to a 49-21 win over St. Olaf on Saturday. The kickoff return for a TD was Augsburg's first since the 1999 season. Tilton also had one punt return in the game. On the season, Tilton is averaging 28.9 yards per kick return (7 returns, 202 yards).

Joel Quick, Bethel

Week of: 2008-09-29

Bethel University junior kick returner Joel Quick (Johnston, Iowa) returned a Concordia kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown and gave Bethel their only touchdown of the day on Saturday in Moorhead. The return pulled the Royals, who were down 17-0 beforehand, back into the game. Quick had three returns for a total of 100 yards on kickoffs, and also had 41 yards on two receptions as a wide receiver.

Erik Fabry, Carleton

Week of: 2008-09-22

Carleton College first-year punter Erik Fabry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) helped Carleton notch one of the biggest victories in the program's history, posting a 17-14 triumph at #13 Bethel University with his work on special teams. Fabry pinned the Royals inside the 15-yard line three times with his punts, including one downed at the 4-yard line. His final punt of the afternoon was the most important though. Bethel had just scored touchdowns on consecutive drives to take the lead, then pinned Carleton back on its own 1-yard line. Punting from his own endzone, Fabry unleashed a booming 54-yard punt that created a momentum shift. The Royals immediately went three-and-out, setting the stage for the Knights' game-winning, fourth-quarter touchdown drive. Fabry averaged 39.2 yards/punt on his five punts.

St. Olaf College first-year punt returner Leon Clark (Rochester, Minn./Century) returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown in the Oles' 29-23 win over St. Thomas. Clark's score cut a 14-0 UST lead to seven with 2:24 left in the first half. Clark also caught two passes for 30 yards in the six-overtime win.

Matt Nelson, St. Olaf

Week of: 2008-09-15

St. Olaf College senior punter Matt Nelson (Eagan, Minn.) punted six times for a 46.5 yards/punt average in the Oles' 17-0 win over Pacific Lutheran. Nelson was able to pin the Lutes deep in their own territory by placing three punts inside the Pacific Lutheran 20-yardline. St. Olaf is now 2-0 on the season and 15-1 in non-conference games since 2000. The 17-0 win over Pacific Lutheran is the Oles first shutout since 2005.

T.J. Kloetzke, Bethel

Week of: 2008-09-08

Bethel University first-year kicker T.J. Kloetzke (Coon Rapids, Minn./Concordia Academy) was a perfect 5-for-5 on point after attempts and added a 23-yard field goal as the Bethel Royals defeated the Concordia-Wisconsin Falcons 38-10 on Saturday. The win is Bethel's 10th consecutive regular season victory.
