Mankato, Minn. / West
St. Olaf quarterback Dan Dobson (Mankato, Minn./West) didn't just lead his team to a thrilling 38-35 win over Saint John's Saturday, he also stamped his name in the Ole record books in the process. Dobson - who led St. Olaf to its first win over the Johnnies since 2001 - threw for nearly 400 yards and five touchdowns to become St. Olaf's all-time leader in touchdown passes, and No. 2 in completions. For his historic performance, Dobson was named the MIAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week.
The Ole senior had a career day in the big win, completing 32-of-39 passes (82.1 percent) for 389 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. Dobson rallied St. Olaf from a 14-point deficit in the second quarter, and again from seven down in the final eight minutes of the game. He tossed the game-winning 19-yard touchdown pass with just 3:43 left, and now has an Ole record 53 touchdown passes in his career. His other scoring passes traveled 37, 34, 15 and nine yards. Dobson ranks second in the MIAC this season with 11 touchdown passes and 236.2 passing yards per game.
With the win, St. Olaf kept itself in the race for the MIAC title as it improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play in 2012. The Oles will look for their third-straight win Saturday when they hit the road for St. Paul. St. Olaf takes on Hamline on the Pipers' home field with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
