St. Aubin de Medoc, France / Siuslaw (Ore.)
The Concordia football team was great in all three phases of the game Saturday during an impressive 47-20 win over Augsburg. The special teams were led by the continued excellence of kicker Ben Wagner (St. Aubin de Medoc, France/Siuslaw, Ore.), who continued his impressive PAT streak and added a pair of field goals to the Cobbers' latest big win. For his performance, Wagner was named the MIAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.
Wagner's kicking was a key component to Saturday's win over the Auggies as the senior nailed all five of his extra point attempts, and was 2-for-3 on field goals for 11 points. His two made fourth-quarter field goals were from 24 and 31 yards out, with his only miss coming from 47 yards as time ran out in the first half. Wagner has now made 73 straight extra points, including a perfect 29-for-29 this season, and he is 6-for-8 in field goals in 2013. Wagner's 47 points lead all MIAC kickers, and his six field goals and 29 extra points both rank second. He is sixth in the league in overall scoring.
Thanks to the win, the Cobbers improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in MIAC play to pull even with idle Saint John's - who Concordia has already defeated - for second place in the conference standings. The Cobbers are now ranked No. 19 in the nation by the AFCA and No. 21 by D3football.com. Concordia will try to continue its successful season Saturday with a trip to Northfield. The Cobbers take on Carleton in a MIAC game at 1 p.m.
