BLAINE, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) continued its annual Men's Hockey Showcase at Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn. on Saturday. Three more MIAC teams dropped the puck to begin their 2017-18 campaigns on the second day of the event.

ST. OLAF 3, ST. THOMAS 1 | Box Score |
St. Olaf (1-1) earned its first win of the season by spoiling the 2017-18 debut of St. Thomas (0-1) on Saturday night. Sophomore defenseman Tuuka Totro got the scoring started just beyond the three-minute mark in the second with his first goal of the season on an Ole power-play, courtesy of a Drew Otto assist. Connor Smith gave St. Olaf a cushion with a goal of his own at 5:01 in the third period. The Tommies netted their first goal of the season off the stick of Brett Gravelle at 17:51 in the third, but the comeback would fall short, as Otto punched in an unassisted empty net goal less than two minutes later to seal the game. Eric Hancock recorded 32 saves between the pipes for the Oles.

The Cobbers (0-0-1) and Gusties (0-1-1) tussled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. After a scoreless first period, freshman forward Logan Norman scored his first collegiate goal to put Gustavus on top in the second. A power-play goal by Concordia's Zach Doerring evened things up in the third, which proved to be the final score of the game. Following a scoreless overtime period, the teams settled their differences in a shootout. Senior defenseman Jake Bushey granted Gustavus bragging rights, connecting on the Gusties' final shot for a 3-2 edge in the shootout.

SAINT JOHN'S 1, SAINT MARY'S 0 | Box Score |
It was a defensive battle throughout as Saint John's (2-0) bested Saint Mary's (0-1) 1-0 in the final game of the night. Saint John's goalie Mac Berglove made 30 saves in his first appearance of the young season, while Aaron Davis stopped 24 pucks in his season debut for the Cardinals. The difference in the contest proved to be a Huba Sekesi goal midway through the first period.

The 2017 MIAC Hockey Showcase will conclude on Sunday afternoon. Augsburg and Concordia will get the fun started at 2:30 p.m. on Rink 1. Bethel and Saint Mary's will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Rink 2 and St. Thomas will challenge Hamline at 3:30 p.m. on Rink 4.
