BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Augsburg will host Gustavus in the 2018 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Hockey Championship Game following a dramatic day of college hockey in the North Star State.

No. 3 seed Augsburg scored two goals in the final 1:16 of regulation to pull off a stunning 4-3 road victory over No 2. Saint John's in a semifinal matinee. That action was followed up with Gustavus pushing No. 1 seed St. Thomas to overtime, where forward Colton Schmidt scored his second consecutive game-winning goal of the postseason to put the Gusties on top, 4-3.

The Auggies will host the Gusties in the Conference Championship game with a spot in the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Tournament on the line next Saturday, March 3. Game time is yet to be determined. Augsburg and Gustavus opened the 2017 season against each other in the annual MIAC Men's Hockey Showcase back in October. Augsburg won that game and the two squads split their two-game conference series last month.

Following Dietsch's first score, the Johnnies rallied for three straight second period goals, going up 3-1 midway through the frame. Augsburg scored again less than three minutes later, however, sparking a run of three unanswered goals en route to victory. Chandler Madry found the back of the net with 17 seconds left to play to give the Auggies a 4-3 win.

For the second game in a row, sophomore forward Colton Schmidt played the role of hero, scoring the game-winning goal less than three minutes into overtime to send the Gusties to the MIAC Championship Game. Schmidt – who scored the Gusties' first goal of the game as well – entered the contest fresh off scoring a dramatic game-winner late in the third period of Thursday night's quarterfinal victory over Concordia. Schmidt finished Saturday's action with two goals and an assist, while teammate Will LeNeave lended a hand on a pair of scores. The Tommies had two players – Tanner Barnes and Brett Gravelle – log multi-point games, with each contributing a goal and an assist in the contest.

Augsburg and Gustavus will meet on Saturday, March 3, in the 2018 MIAC Men's Hockey Playoff Championship game. The MIAC Playoff champion will receive the postseason championship plaque and the Conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Tournament.
