St. Olaf's Billy Brebrick (Wausau, Wis./East) is off to quite a start in his young collegiate swimming career. The freshman showcased his potential in the team's home dual against Gustavus Saturday, winning all three of his individual events and helping out a first-place relay. Brebrick set a season-best time in each race in the process while leading the Oles to a convincing dual victory over the Gusties. For his performance, Brebrick was named the first MIAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete-of-the-Week of the 2012-13 season.
Brebrick was stellar in front of the home fans in both butterfly and freestyle events Saturday. He won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.27 seconds, and added a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a winning time of 1:54.24. He also captured first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.48 seconds. Brebrick completed the butterfly leg of the 200-yard medley relay in 22.92, helping St. Olaf finish first in the event with a time of 1:35.76. Brebrick's four firsts - and season-best times - helped the Oles defeat the visiting Gusties in the dual, 195-99.
Brebrick and his Ole teammates will take the rest of November off, as the next meet on their schedule is the two-day Rochester Invite, held on Dec. 1-2. St. Olaf will take a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in late December, and then will face the bulk of its schedule once the calendar flips to 2013, with six meets in January and February.
