The St. Olaf men's swimming and diving team enjoyed a decisive win in Friday's dual at MIAC rival Gustavus, with the Oles scoring a 211-83 victory. Junior Mike Gratz (Eden Prairie, Minn.) had a lot to do with St. Olaf's success, as the star won a pair of individual events and led the Oles to a pair of relay victories as well. For his role in the big win, Gratz was named the MIAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete-of-the-Week.
Gratz showed off his talent and versatility Friday, claiming victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.26, and adding a win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.85. He also helped St. Olaf win the 200-yard medley relay, as his 24.61 split in the backstroke helped the team finish in 1:34.10, and he also led the 400-yard freestyle relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:10.42 with his split of 47.35. All four times rank No. 1 in the MIAC thus far in 2013-14.
St. Olaf and its star junior have wrapped up their November schedule, as they'll take the rest of the month off from competition. The Oles return to the pool for the Jean Freeman Invitational in Minneapolis on Dec. 6-7, and will conclude the 2013 portion of the schedule on Dec. 31 at the Ed Kennedy Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
