BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2018 MIAC Men's Tennis Awards on Tuesday, including the Arthur Ashe Award, Coach of the Year, All-Conference teams and All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Saint John's senior Tim Larson was selected as the 2018 MIAC Arthur Ashe Award winner. The award annually recognizes a senior tennis student-athlete who exhibits outstanding sportsmanship and exemplary athletic, academic and humanitarian accomplishments.

Larson (Sr. | Bloomington, Minn. | Jefferson) has been involved with Family Fest Ministries - a faith-based non-profit - and Feed My Starving Children - an organization that strives to combat hunger worldwide - since the age of 12. In college, he has also served as a member of Saint John's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), where he aided in numerous student-athlete advancement and charitable initiatives, including working with Kids Fighting Hunger. Johnnie student-athletes have packaged upwards of 40,000 meals in each of the last three years to those in need abroad and in Stearns County.

On the court, Larson has also been an unquestionable example of excellence. Larson has played No. 1 singles for SJU each of the last three seasons and lined up at No. 1 doubles all four of his seasons in Collegeville. Larson totaled 96 combined wins in his singles and doubles collegiate career.

"Tim is one of the hardest-working players and the most talented two-sport (tennis and soccer) athlete that I have had the privilege to coach in my 32 years of collegiate coaching," Saint John's head tennis coach Jack Bowe said.

In addition to the Arthur Ashe Award, MIAC tennis coaches also selected the MIAC Steve Wilkinson Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. Concordia College coach Joseph Murrey was honored by his peers with the award. In 2018, Murrey guided the Cobbers to their first MIAC Playoff berth in seven seasons and the program's highest win total (11) since the 2005 campaign.

The 2018 MIAC Men's Tennis All-Conference Singles and Doubles teams were also recognized. The All-Conference team is selected based on performance during conference dual matches, with the top 18 players (including ties) recognized for both singles and doubles. A player must play in five conferences matches at any position to be eligible for the honor.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the 12th annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for men's tennis. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
