2007 MIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

February 27, 2007
Track
- Gustavus Adolphus sophomore Tyler Geyen (Watertown, Minn./ Watertown-Mayer) won the the 55 hurdles at the Pre-MIAC meet hosted by Carleton College on Friday. Geyen's time if 7.85 ranks him first in the MIAC.

Field - Saint John's University junior Erik Diley (Prescott, Wis.) won both the long jump (6.69m) and triple jump (13.81m) at The Qualifier hosted by St. Olaf College on Saturday. Both were season best performances for Diley.

- Saint John's University junior Chris Erichsen (Spring Valley, Minn./Kingsland) qualified automatically for the NCAA championships and broke the Saint John's 5000m record at the Saint John's Triangular on Saturday. The time of 14:31.32 currently ranks him fourth in NCAA Division III and surpasses the previous Saint John's record of 14:39.1 set by Charlie Mahler in 1985.

- Hamline University junior Brandon Gleason (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) ran a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14:35.66 in the 5000m at the Iowa State Classic. The performance currently ranks him first in the MIAC and eighth on the NCAA performance list.

Field - Hamline University senior Drew Jones (Coon Rapids, Minn.) improved his NCAA provisional mark to 16.98m at the Iowa State Classic. The performance is top in the MIAC, 12th in the NCAA, and ranks him third on the Hamline all-time list. Jones came back the next day to take wins in both the weight throw and shot put at the Meet of Hearts at Carleton.

- University of St. Thomas sophomore Brian Sames (Shakopee, Minn.) ran a 1:53.91 in the 800m at the Minnesota State Open on Saturday. The time currently ranks him first in the MIAC and third in NCAA Division III.

Field - Gustavus Adolphus College senior Josh Sorenson (Hanska, Minn./Madelia) vaulted 15' 7 1/4" at the MSU open which provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA's. The height also breaks the Gustavus indoor record.

- Carleton College junior Ryan Martinez (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) ran a personal record in the one mile run while finishing second with a time of 4:19.95 at the Carleton Open. This time betters the former MIAC-leading time by 8.5 seconds. Martinez bested six of the seven Division I and II runners in the field

- Hamline University junior Brandon Gleason (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) opened his indoor season with a 8:33.51 in the 3,000 meter. His performance was the fastest non-converted 3k in school history - earning him the school record - and the win at the St. Olaf Opener.

Field - University of St. Thomas sophomore James Ewer (Lakeville, Minn.) won the long jump in a field of 51 competitors at Saturday's non-team scored Iowa State University Open in Ames, Iowa. On his sixth and final jump, Ewer cleared 23-2 -- his collegiate best and the fifth best jump in school indoor history. It also ranks fourth best in Division III early in the season. Ewer also clocked 7.11 in the 60-meter dash.

Field - University of St. Thomas senior Matt Schroeder (Winona, Minn.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in pole vault with a height of 4.77 / 15-7.75. Schroeder achieved the mark at the St. Thomas Alumni Meet on Friday.
