2007 MIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships Awards

St. Paul, Minn. -- The 2007 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships came to a close on Saturday evening with the St. Thomas men and women capturing the team titles. This week individuals awards were announced and they are listed below.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC selected the first annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship teams for Indoor Track & Field. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.

Men's Track Athlete of the Meet - Josh Otto, Bethel
- Otto (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) tied the Bethel school record of 49.11 in winning the 400 meter dash, which qualified him for the national meet; he also placed second in the 600 yard dash in 1:13.74. Otto was a member of the Bethel 800 and 1600 meter relay teams that won conference championships.

Men's Field Athlete of the Meet - Andy Klaers, Gustavus
- Klaers (Sr., Loretto, Minn./Delano) won the 35-pound weight throw with his best mark of the season (57-7 3/4). Klaers also placed sixth in the shot put (46-1 1/4).

Men's Outstanding Performance of the Meet - Matt Schroeder, St. Thomas
- Schroeder (Sr., Winona, Minn.) broke a 24-year-old pole vault meet record last Saturday (16-3 1-4) to help St. Thomas claim the school's 23rd consecutive MIAC championship. The vault also sent him in this weekend's NCAA meet seeded eighth.

Men's and Women's Coach of the Year - Jim Timp, Bethel
- Timp was named Indoor Track Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's teams in just his second full year with both teams. The women's team finished in a best ever second place, while the men finished in a very strong fourth place showing great improvement over last years ninth place finish for both teams.
