St. Thomas repeats as MIAC Men's Cross Country Champions

The St. Thomas men and St. Olaf women's cross country teams repeated as team champions at Saturday's 2001 MIAC Championships at St. Paul's Como Golf Course.

Led by individual champ Brian Preus (shown below), St. Thomas put three runners in the top five and six in the top 15 to win the men's championship with 26 points. The Tommies, ranked seventh in NCAA Division III, posted one of the lowest team scores in MIAC history. Hamline (65), St. John's (77), St. Olaf (78) and Carleton (97) placed second through fifth.

Preus, a junior who placed second last year, ran the 8,000-meter course in 25:43, one second ahead of senior teammate Nick Maddox. Soph Nate Coleman (26:05), senior Andy Kummer (26:07), junior Levi Severson (26:31) and soph Sean Brenckman (26:49 also earned All-MIAC honors with top-15 finishes.
