NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton Knights waited 15 years between Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) men's cross country championships before claiming the conference crown last season. The wait was not nearly as long this time around, as the Knights took home their second straight MIAC championship on Saturday afternoon in Northfield, Minn. The first three finishers at the meet - Lucas Mueller, Tris Dodge, and Cameron Meikle, all call Carleton home and helped the Knights to a 10-point margin of victory over rival St. Olaf with a total of 33 points in the 2018 Championships.
Muller's time of 25:10.4 led the way, followed by Dodge in second at 25:23.9, and Meikle in third at 25:33.8. St. Thomas' Karl Wachter was not far behind in fourth with a time of 25:39.2, while St. Olaf - led by William Anderson's fifth-place finish in 25:50.9 - placed five runners among the top 12 finishers. The Oles took second as a team with 43 points, followed by St. Thomas in third with 66. Bethel came in fourth with 120, Saint John's had 130, and Gustavus notched 186. Concordia placed seventh with a score of 200, followed by Macalester in eighth place with 206, Hamline in ninth with 241, Saint Mary's in 10th with 308, and Augsburg in 11th with 315.
The team conference championship is number five for the Knights, who swept the men's and women's races for the second consecutive season.
Two-hundred student-athletes participated in this year's MIAC Men's Championships. The top 15 finishers earned All-Conference recognition, while finishers 16-25 were awarded Honorable Mention. Eight of the meet's top 10 finishers hailed from Carleton and St. Olaf. The All-MIAC and Honorable Mention runners were honored at a post-meet awards ceremony, and the Knights were also presented with their MIAC Championship plaque.
