BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – D3hoops.com announced its annual All-Region selections on Tuesday and six players from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) were among those recognized.
Saint Mary's forward Brandi Blattner and St. Thomas center Hannah Spaulding were named to the All-West Region First Team, with Gustavus guard Mikayla Miller and Bethel center Hannah Johnson receiving Second Team consideration and Saint Benedict forward Niki Fokken and Gustavus forward Miranda Rice landing on the Third Team.
Blattner (Jr. | Eyota, Minn. | Dover-Eyota) is now a three-time All-Region selection, having earned Second Team honors in 2016 and Third Team accolades following last season. The junior scoring machine registered 12 double-doubles on the season and scored 10-plus points in 26 of the Cardinals' 27 games – eclipsing the 20-point plateau on 12 different occasions.
Spaulding (Jr. | Annandale, Minn.) earned her first All-Region nod after being named MIAC Player of the Year last month. In her first season as a starter, Spaulding led all of NCAA Division III with a field goal percentage of 70.0, averaging a MIAC-high 19.8 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per contest, helping the Tommies to their sixth Sweet 16 appearance in the last seven seasons.
Miller (Sr. | Goodhue, Minn.) garnered Second Team All-Region honors for the second year in a row after a season in which she became the all-time leading scorer in Gusties' program history. The senior guard finished her collegiate career with 1,812 points and 310 steals – both school records – and helped guide Gustavus to its first-ever Sweet 16 appearance earlier this month.
Johnson (Jr. | Duluth, Minn. | Duluth East) earned her first All-Region selection in 2018 following a dynamic junior campaign for the Royals. The two-time All-MIAC honoree averaged a double-double during the 2017-18 season, leading all Conference players with 10.4 rebounds per game and a total of 87 blocks on the year.
Fokken (Sr. | Oronoco, Minn. | Pine Island) made her All-Region debut in 2018 after a career-year at Saint Benedict. The senior post player helped CSB reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nine years this past season and led the team in scoring 15 times throughout the year. A three-time All-MIAC selection, Fokken eclipsed 1,000 points for her career in her final collegiate game in March, finishing her four-year tenure with 1,018 points, 593 rebounds, 175 blocked shots, 88 assists and 79 steals.
Rice (Sr. | Forest Lake, Minn.) received All-Region honors for the first time in her four-year career on Tuesday. Gustavus' all-time leader in games played (112) enjoyed an outstanding senior season, finishing just 10 points shy of the program record for points in a single season. A two-time All-MIAC pick, Rice averaged 17.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in 2017-18.
