Morgan McCorkle, St. Thomas

Oregon, Wis. / Oregon

The St. Thomas women's golf team and Morgan McCorkle (Oregon, Wis.) are finishing the 2014-15 in strong fashion, as the Tommie rookie shot her two best collegiate rounds to earn a top-two individual finish and lead her team to a one-stroke championship at the nine-team Carleton Spring Invitational. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored McCorkle Wednesday with the MIAC Women's Golf Athlete-of-the-Week award.

In her first 15 collegiate rounds, McCorkle's best score was a 79 ... until last week. She bested that mark twice by shooting a 76 over the first 18 holes and 78 during the final round for a two-day, 36-hole total of 154. That score was good for second in the 54-player field, and she was the top finisher among 43 MIAC golfers. McCorkle led St. Thomas to a final-round score of 319 as the Tommies turned a one-shot deficit on day one into a one-shot win over host Carleton, 643 to 644. This was UST's first win of 2014-15, and sixth top-three finish.

St. Thomas hopes to carry its momentum into its final event of the 2014-15 season. This weekend, the Tommies will travel across the border into Wisconsin to compete in the Eau Claire Spring Invite. The 36-hole tournament will be hosted by UW-Eau Claire, and played Saturday and Sunday in Eau Claire, Wis.
