Hudson, Wis. / Hudson
The St. Thomas women's hockey team had a three-point weekend against Concordia thanks to a milestone performance from senior Alise Riedel (Hudson, Wis.). The Tommie goalie earned her 40th career win and 12th career shutout as she stopped 57 of the 58 shots she faced and allowed just a lone goal in 125 minutes of ice time to help UST go 1-0-1 against the Cobbers. For her performance, Riedel was named the MIAC Women's Hockey Athlete-of-the-Week.
Friday, Riedel was magnificent in St. Thomas' 3-0 shutout victory. She stopped all 22 Concordia shots as she reached the 40-win plateau and notched her 12th shutout all in the same game. Riedel may have been even better in Saturday's 1-1 overtime tie, as she allowed just the one goal in 65 minutes while making 35 saves to keep the Tommies in it. This season, Riedel ranks first in the MIAC in win percentage (.917), second in wins (five), save percentage (.957) and goals against average (1.15). She's first in conference play in saves (154), second in save percentage (.957) and third in goals against (1.15).
Thanks to the 1-0-1 weekend, St. Thomas improved to 5-1-1 this season and 5-0-1 in conference play. The Tommies' 11 points rank second in the MIAC standings, and they're just a point behind first-place Gustavus. This weekend, UST will step outside the conference for a big test against UW-Stevens Point. St. Thomas will host the Pointers at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
