The Bethel women's hockey team scored a big nonconference split over the weekend against UW-Superior with Lauren Kolak (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) leading the way. The sophomore forward had a three-point weekend with two goals and one assist and the game-winning goal in Friday's 3-1 victory. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Kolak Monday with the MIAC Women's Hockey Athlete-of-the-Week award.

Kolak had her fingerprints all over Friday's 3-1 home upset of the Yellowjackets, which are the first team receiving votes outside the Top 10, as she was involved in two of the team's three goals. She scored the team's second goal 4:29 into the third period, the assisted on an insurance goal less than three minutes later to seal the win. She also had the Royals' lone goal in Saturday's 4-1 loss for a three-point weekend. This season, Kolak has three goals and three assists for six points and a plus-three rating.

Thanks to the split, the Royals are now 8-4-1 overall, and the team is 3-2-1 in MIAC play. Bethel has seven points and is tied for fourth in the conference standings. This weekend, Kolak and company will return to conference with a home-and-home series against Saint Mary's. The Royals host the Cardinals Friday at Schwan's Super Rink at 7 p.m. and they'll complete the series Saturday at 2 p.m. on SMU's home ice in Winona.
