ST. PAUL, MINN. -- It will be a homecoming of sorts for Hamline head women's hockey coach Natalie Darwitz. The all time leader in U of Minnesota's women's hockey history in points per game (who also served as an assistant coach there for two seasons) will lead her Piper team against her alma mater in an exhibition game at Ridder Arena on Tuesday, November 5.

Game time is 7:00 p.m.

It will be the first time that Hamline has ever faced the Gophers in hockey.

The Pipers are coming off a season in which they won a school record 23 games and became the first MIAC team ever to advance to the NCAA D-III Championship game. HU defeated St. Thomas, 3-0, in the semifinals in the Tommies' rink before giving way to Plattsburgh State in the title game.

Among the many individual awards the Pipers earned, Bre Simon, who will be a senior forward on this year's team, was named recipient of the Laura Hurd Award as the top D-III women's puckster in the nation.

HU will face a Gopher team that is traditionally among the best in the country in Division I. Minnesota went 32-6-1 last season and also finished second in the country, falling to Wisconsin in the D-1 championship game.

Hamline actually opens the 2019-20 season November 1 with a game at Adrian (Mich.) The TRIA Rink home opener is November 8 against Wis-Superior. The entire 2019-20 schedule will be released later this summer.
