Appleton, Wis. / East
The Gustavus women's swimming and diving team had an extremely busy weekend, winning a dual with Carleton Friday before a successful showing at Luther College's Norse Sprint Invite on Saturday. Junior Danielle Klunk (Appleton, Wis./East) starred for the Gusties in the two events with a perfect four-win showing against the Knights and a trio of pool records at the Norse Invite. For her record-breaking weekend, Klunk was named the MIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete-of-the-Week.
Klunk won the 100- (1:00.09) and 200-yard butterfly (2:13.32) in the 212-82 win over Carleton, while helping the 200-medley relay (1:49.92) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:39.29) also finish first. Then on Saturday in Iowa the Gustavus junior set pool records while winning the 100-yard butterfly (59.91) and 100-yard freestyle (54.07) and she helped the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:39.36) also win and set a pool record. Klunk added second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-medley relay, and a third-place finish in the 100-yard individual medley to cap off her busy and successful weekend.
The Gusties will be back in action this weekend with a trip to Iowa for a two-day meet. Gustavus will compete Friday and Saturday at the Grinnell Invitational in Decorah, Iowa. The team has just three events left on its regular-season schedule as it prepares for the MIAC Championships.
