Dayton, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret's
St. Thomas scored a pair of dual-meet wins over MIAC foes last
weekend, and Casey Nightingale (Dayton, Minn./Benilde-St.
Margaret's) contributed a quartet of tremendous diving performances
to help her team earn the two victories. The junior diver scored
two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes and met one
NCAA qualifying cut in the process. For her performance, the MIAC
sports information directors honored Nightingale Tuesday with the
MIAC Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete-of-the-Week award.
In Friday's 171-124 win over Carleton, Nightingale won the 3-meter title with a score of 229.0, and her score of 223.35 was good for a second-place finish. The next day, she had more success against the Oles on both boards, as she finished first again on the 3-meter board with a score of 252.65, and her second-place score of 260.85 on the 1-meter board met the NCAA diving qualifying score (six dives) as she helped her team score a 153-138 victory.
The Tommies and Nightingale will be back in the pool Friday when they host the women's-only UST Andregg Invite in St. Paul at 6 p.m. The team will also be in action the following day as it travels across town to compete in the Macalester Ahlman Invite at 1 p.m. UST has three more events on the pre-Holiday schedule before taking a break and a training trip to West Palm Beach, Fla.
