Rochester, Minn. / Century

The Gustavus women's swimming and diving team faced tremendous competition at the University of Minnesota's Jean Freeman Invitational, and senior star Jennifer Strom (Rochester, Minn./Century) continued to shine, even against top NCAA Division I, II and III competition. Strom swam the fastest time in the MIAC this season in four different individual events and she helped three Gustie relay teams all earn top-five finishes. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Strom Tuesday with her second MIAC Swimming and Diving Athlete-of-the-Week award this season.

Strom's best individual finish was a third-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.56. She also finished seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.07), eighth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:36.33) and ninth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.10), and all four of those times are the best in the MIAC in each event this season. Strom also helped Gustavus finish second in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:46.01), third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:55.79) and fifth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.14).

The Gusties will enjoy 22 days off before they close the year with a training trip to Puerto Rico from Dec. 27 to Jan. 4. Strom and company will return to action in Minnesota in 2015 with a dual meet at Carleton on Jan. 9. This season, Gustavus is 2-0 in duals and has finished first in its other three scored meets.
