BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The 2018 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Volleyball Playoffs got underway Tuesday night with a pair of quarterfinal matchups. St. Thomas will match up with No. 2 Saint Benedict, while the Augsburg will clash with top-seeded Gustavus. Both semifinal matches are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

St. Thomas extended its win streak to nine matches with a 3-0 sweep of No. 6 seed St. Olaf in the MIAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday. The Tommies won 25-21, 26-24, 25-21 to advance to the semifinals for the third consecutive season. A balanced attack guided UST to victory, with three different players logging double-digit digs and both Audrey Erickson and Grace Bordson hitting better than .300 in the match. St. Olaf setter Lexi Wall posted a match-high 41 assists, while Katelyn Lannom logged 13 kills and a .400 attack percentage. The Tommies will move on to face No. 2 Saint Benedict in a rematch of last year's MIAC Playoff Championship - this time in St. Joseph - on Thursday. The defending MIAC Playoff champs defeated St. Thomas at Claire Lynch Hall by a margin of 3-1 in September, marking the Bennies' first home victory over their rivals since 2004. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

NO. 5 AUGSBURG 3, NO. 4 BETHEL 2Box Score |
After falling behind in sets 2-0 - including what could have been a demoralizing 28-30 loss in a wild second frame - Augsburg dug deep to rattle off three straight victories and defeat Bethel, 3-2, to move on the semifinals. The Auggies bounced back from 20-25 and 28-30 setbacks to start the match, going on to win 25-21, 25-19, and 15-13 in the final three to set up a showdown with unbeaten Gustavus Adolphus. Setter Morgan Malley played lights out for Augsburg, registering a 54-assist, 29-dig double-double while hitting .300 in the match. Bethel's Tina Hoppe had a monster night as well, registering 19 momentum-swinging kills and 13 digs. Augsburg will head to St. Peter on Thursday for a matchup with Gustavus, a team that defeated Augsburg, 3-1, last week. These two programs met in last year's quarterfinal round, with the Auggies pulling off a 3-1 upset on the road. The rematch is set for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

SEMIFINAL MATCHUPS SET FOR THURSDAY
The Tommies and Auggies used their quarterfinal wins to advance to Thursday's semifinals, where No. 1 Gustavus and No. 2 Saint Benedict are set to host. No. 2 CSB will host No. 3 St. Thomas and the No. 1 Gusties will host No. 5 Augsburg. Both matches are tentatively set for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The semifinal winners will advance to the Championship match, which will be played Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m. on the home court of the top remaining seed. The MIAC Playoff champion will receive the postseason championship plaque and the conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.
