Bethel University senior Marie Borner (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) collected her third consecutive MIAC championship victory, covering the six-kilometer course in 21:43 on Saturday at Como Park Golf Course. Borner beat Carleton’s Simone Childs-Walker by thirty-two seconds in chilly temperature on a soft, muddy course. As a team, Bethel finished in second place out of 12 teams for the second year in a row. Borner surged to the front of the race immediately, building a ten to twelve second lead within the first two miles.

Bethel University senior Marie Borner (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) placed second at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on Saturday. In another back-and-forth battle with rival Ayla Mitchell of UW-Oshkosh, Borner finished second with a new personal best time of 20:35. Borner, the defending NCAA Division III National Champion, and Mitchell, who finished third at nationals last year, will likely square off one more time at the NCAA National Meet in approximately one month. As a team, the #11 Royals, placed sixth out of 34 teams behind four other nationally ranked teams and a Division II team.

Laura Roach, Carleton

Carleton College senior Laura Roach (Lakeville, Minn./North) placed third overall (second in team point competition) to propel the Knights who finished ahead of four regional competitors and a Division I program at the Dan Hutson Invitational. Roach's time of 22:39 was one of eight season-bests recorded by Carleton who finished with 105 points, which was good for third place out of 11 teams.

Kelly Russ, St. Thomas

University of St. Thomas senior Kelly Russ (Wayzata, Minn.) placed11th overall and third among Division III runners with a time of 18:06 at the 5,000 meter race at the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore. Russ led St. Thomas to a fifth place team finish in a competitive field featuring many Division 1 and 2 runners and nationally ranked Division III teams.

Bethel University senior Marie Borner (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) won her third consecutive meet to start the season as she won the Roy Griak Invitational title this past weekend. She finished first in the field of 500 runners in the Maroon Division III race. Borner's time of 21:37 was 13 seconds ahead of rival Ayla Mitchell, and would have been fourth overall in the Division I race.  Borner's performance also helped Bethel University to finish fourth as a team in the meet. This was Borner's first Griak title after having finished second the past two seasons at the University of Minnesota's annual meet. 

Greta Sieve, St. Catherine

St. Catherine University senior Greta Sieve (New Ulm, Minn) finished third overall, and first among Division III athletes, in the field of 276 athletes at the St. Olaf Invitational this past weekend. Sieve's time of 22:35 was a 21 second personal best and established a new St. Kate's all time best for the 6k in cross country.

Bethel University senior Marie Borner (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) won the Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday beating out 221 runners on the six-kilometer course. Her time of 21:23 was nine seconds ahead of the second place finisher and was over forty seconds faster than her winning time from this meet last year. Borner's individual title also helped Bethel to finish second overall, and first among Division III teams, at the meet.
