Wayzata, Minn. / Wayzata

Bethel's Annika Halverson (Wayzata, Minn.) certainly knows how to make an entrance. In her very first meet as a collegiate student-athlete, the Royals' first-year runner scored a first-place finish in her incredible debut. For her performance, Halverson was named the first MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week for the 2014 season.

Halverson completed her first collegiate race - a dual meet against Augsburg at Riverside Park in Minneapolis - in just 19:36. She won by 14 seconds over the second-place finisher from Augsburg, and paced a group of Royal runners that placed four in the top eight and five in the top 10. The team scored 29 points in the dual race, and finished just three points behind the Auggies, who won the race with 26 points.

The Royals will take this weekend off to prepare for their first full meet of the 2014 season, as the team will travel to Iowa for a big race on Sept. 13. Halverson and her teammates will compete in the Les Duke Invitational at Oakland Acres Golf Course in Grinnell, Iowa, next Saturday at 10 a.m.
