Naperville, Ill. / North
Macalester sophomore Kimber Meyer (Naperville, Ill./North) was running in just her second race of 2014, but she appeared to be in mid-season form in a great performance at the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational Saturday at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. Meyer ran to a top-three finish in a field of 300 runners and helped Macalester to a top-six team finish in a 20-team field. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Meyer Tuesday with the MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week award.
Meyer outran 99 percent of the 300-runner field Saturday with her third-place finish and 6k time of 23:16.15. She was fifth after the first 1,000 meters and surged into third place by the 3k mark, where she remained through the finish. Meyer was the second MIAC runner across the finish line, and just 37 seconds behind the winner. She helped Macalester finish sixth in the team standings with 164 points, and the Scots were third among the seven MIAC teams in the field. Meyer shaved more than 14 seconds off her time in the race from a year ago, and helped her team improve by three places.
After their solid performance at the Roy Griak, Meyer and the Scots will get a short break before their next competition. Macalester is idle this weekend and will return to action on Oct. 11, when they make the short trip across town for the St. Catherine University 4k Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. The race will begin that day at 11 a.m. The Scots have just two races left before the MIAC Championships on Nov. 1.
